Sainte-Marie Church

As people moved into the “Nouveau-Habsterdick” housing, the population of the district rose sharply, and the chapel of Sainte Marie, now demolished, was becoming too small to accommodate all the faithful. In March 1962, work to build a new church began. On 26th May 1963, the parishioners of Habsterdick were finally able to attend the blessing of their church, which, like the old chapel, was dedicated to Mary Immaculate. Located at the heart of the Habsterdick district, the church of Sainte Marie is an emblem of modern art. Its circular shape, its understated interior and the light effects from the two rows of glazed panels, all invite the assembled faithful to come together in quiet contemplation.
