Hérapel Hill

Hérapel Hill, located in Cocheren, is a unique place, steeped in history and offering an escape. This iconic site now provides an ideal setting for walks, discovery, and contemplation.

It was at the summit of Hérapel Hill, at an altitude of 330 m, that the ancient Gallo-Roman city of Cocheren was located. As early as the 18th century, excavations uncovered a necropolis. In the 19th century, extensive excavations revealed the remains of a Late Empire enclosure.

Subsequently, several other public buildings were excavated, including two octagonal temples. However, many parts still remain to be discovered, such as the dwellings and craft facilities.

Winter horsetail

Hérapel Hill in Cocheren is home to several fields of winter horsetail, a very rare plant in Lorraine. This plant can reach up to one meter in height and retains its dark green color all year round.
