Natural Areas
Kreutzeck Reserve
A former limestone quarry, the Kreutzeck is located in the areas of Spicheren, Alsting, and Etzling. Abandoned since the end of World War II, nature has reclaimed its rights there.
Exceptional flora has been able to develop, with more than a dozen types of orchids found in the reserve, which particularly thrive on the limestone grasslands of this site.
Classified as a voluntary nature reserve since 2001, the site has now become a suitable place for walks. Besides the change of scenery, the site reveals that a lime quarry operated around 1862, supplying the Schoeneck glassworks, and that a prehistoric discovery was made in 1929: a rhinoceros bone dating from the interglacial period. Walks are also enhanced by viewpoints over the municipalities of Bousbach, Spicheren, Alsting, or Kerbach.

Practical Information:
Site maintained by the CPN Les Faucons association (Knowing and Protecting Nature), which offers guided walking tours of the reserve (bicycles prohibited).
