Simon Quarry

Located between Forbach, Schoeneck, and Stiring-Wendel, the Simon Quarry is a site spanning nearly 87 hectares, which was once operated by the Houillères du Bassin de Lorraine for coal mining.

It is a remarkable site with a panorama resembling an American canyon, overlooking an artificial lake forming due to rising groundwater.

4.5 km of cycle paths allow visitors to explore the site, enabling cyclists and walkers to coexist along a route that invites discovery of flora and fauna in a former sand quarry. It also connects the municipality of Schoeneck to Stiring-Wendel via the Green Corridor and then to the Saar cycle paths via Metzerstrasse in Saarbrücken (Germany).
