Alsting town hall is delighted to welcome Joseph Zimmer, a painter from Forbach, to its second exhibition of the year 2026, from June 01 to July 10, 2026.
\nJoseph turned 80 this year, and his lifelong interest in painting has led him to discover a variety of techniques, mainly in oils. Recently, he has returned to a childhood love, pastels. A number of his pastel portraits are on display at the town hall. In these works, he aims to highlight facial expression using the possibilities offered by this technique.
\nOne painting in particular caught our attention: the hands of an elderly woman knitting. This precise, delicate gesture shows us an everyday art that animated the lives of many women not so long ago. This painting was inspired by the memory of her mother, who used to gather with her neighbors on the front door of Barrabino Road, after fulfilling the duty of housework, to chat and knit.
\nAmong the paintings on display, we have the honor of exhibiting the Bronze Medal at the Grand Palais in Paris, awarded by the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Artistes Fran\u00e7ais in 2020. If there's one thing that sets Joseph Zimmer apart, it's his passion for old objects with a life of their own, a story to tell, for example, this old suitcase that has traveled the world.
